Day 7 update: The group are doing well but have pulled up this afternoon just short of the end and they are stopping tonight so they’ll have about an hours walk tomorrow to victory!  Everyone is fit, well and in high spirits with the thought that they are almost there. Glenn reports that the weather is fantastic – and it isn’t always, so the team have been really lucky.

Day 6 update:  The group aren’t far from home now and today tackled the formidable 9 false peaks near Nauro. The weather has cleared today and after continuing downwards they’ve made numerous creek crossings. From this point they can see Owers Corner and their destination!

Day 5 update: Everyone is doing well and in high spirits!  After a stormy night last night, the clouds passed as they set of for Agelago today. Reaching camp safely this afternoon, the group was involved in a moving ceremony which was conducted on the track where they learnt about the fallen soldiers who sacrificed their lives for their mates and Country.  They then trekked on through the swap to finally reach camp for the afternoon, which is just near  Brown River.  Their plan tomorrow is to push all the way through to Iorabaiwa.

Day 4 update:  Everyone is still travelling well on day 4 of the trek. They are at the half way point tonight – Efogi.  Today they have taken on the track’s highest point – Mount Bellamy, 2250m.  It has not been an easy day but they have tackled the most difficult part of the vertical climb.  After a break at the top they headed downhill.  The reward tonight is staying at one of the best guest houses on the Track!

Thank you!  Thank you!  My trip to Africa and Mt Kilimanjaro far exceeded my hopes and dreams.  A life long dream to see Africa and climb Mt Kilimanjaro may have not been realised without the Adventure Professionals team.

Not knowing anything about the adventure holiday industry but knowing I wanted to see Africa and Mt Kilimanjaro one day, by chance I saw a story in our local paper regarding “Alyssa Azar climbing Mt Kilimanjaro” my first reaction was WOW at 14!  Thinking one day it could be me, little did I know at that time I would be on the same trip!

From the first information night I attended, I was at ease with your company and felt it would be very safe should I embark on my adventure.  Knowing I was sold it was just a matter of convincing my husband and daughters.  My first meeting with you in January 2011 when I was filled with nerves, excitement, trepidation and questions, you were happy to answer all my questions; at no stage did I feel pressured to conclude our meeting or to sign up.  I was given all the information to make my own decision, which was easily made after our meeting.

My African adventure surpassed my expectations due to the level of service provided by Adventure Professionals.  Nothing was left to chance with information provided, training plans, access to your gym, newsletter updates, advice on clothing and equipment, itineraries and even reassurance when required - all this before I left home.  Not to mention the updates to family while I was away and receiving messages of congratulations while away.

Arriving in Africa your professional manner continued with a briefing on arrival, again nothing left to chance.  From the exceptional Lake Duluti Lodge to the wonderful porters on the mountain, their friendly happy manner made the trek so much easier.  The visit to the two schools and the home of a Masai family gave me the snapshot of Africa I was looking for.

You have adeptly named your company Adventure Professionals – true in every respect!  So again thank you and should I embark on another adventure holiday it would definitely be with Adventure Professionals.

Alyssa Azar at just 14 successfully conquered Africa’s largest mountain, Mount Kilimanjaro on July 1 with Adventure Professionals to help raise funds for Kids Helpline.

Alyssa who has already been the youngest person ever to trek The Kokoda Track, conquered Everest Base Camp and climbed Australia’s 10 highest peaks, can now add the formidable Mount Kilimanjaro to her list of accomplishments.

The climb was part of a Kids Helpline fundraising expedition whereby participants raised over an incredible $50,000 for the charity organisation.

Alyssa is an avid adventurer who has been trekking since the age of 5 and is excited to have finally achieved this goal.

“Climbing Kilimanjaro is something that I have dreamed of since I was 9 years old, but I was held back because 10 is the minimum age restriction for climbing the mountain,” said Alyssa.

Age however, has not been a barrier for Alyssa in the past when, at only 8 years of age, she became the youngest person to walk the Kokoda Track.

Alyssa has completed every one of her adventures, all in the company of former soldier and father, Glenn Azar.

“My dad and I have been trekking together for a long time and he motivates me to accomplish things I never knew I was capable of, like walking Kokoda and now reaching the summit of Mt Kilimanjaro,” said Alyssa.

As an Adventure Director at Adventure Professionals, Glenn also joined Alyssa on her journey to Kilimanjaro, reaching the summit with clear skies and incredible 360 degree views.

“It was great to have my dad by my side for my biggest adventure yet,” she added.

“We’ve trained hard to prepare for the climb and we were determined to finish it – not just for ourselves, but also for the Kids Helpline,” said Alyssa.

Alyssa arrived home to Australia from successfully climbing to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa on July 7. The trip was lead by Glenn Azar from Adventure Professionals and Alyssa was also accompanied by a group of participants who helped raise over $50,000 for Kids Helpline.
